A new step towards rural development was taken in Erode district with the launch of village startup communities in Thandampalayam and Annamalai Kottai villages.
The initiative was officially launched on January 21, 2026, by Erode District Collector S. Kandasamy at the Collectorate in Tamil Nadu.
Purpose of the Initiative
The village startup communities are launched under the State Government scheme called “Gramam Thorum Puthozhil”, which means Establishing Startups in Every Village.
The main goal of this scheme is to take the startup movement beyond cities and into rural areas.

Key Focus Areas of the Program
- Identification and support of aspiring entrepreneurs from rural areas
- Development of a structured startup ecosystem with guidance from Startup TN
- Access to incubation, mentoring, and business development support
- Facilitation of government startup schemes and funding opportunities
Through this initiative, a systematic framework is being created to encourage village-level startups and sustainable entrepreneurship in Erode district
Tamil Nadu’s Growing Startup Ecosystem
During the launch, the Collector explained that this scheme is part of the Tamil Nadu government’s larger plan to strengthen startups across the State.

- T.N. SC/ST Startup Fund

- The State recently won the “Best Performing State” award in the State Startup Rankings
Startup Growth in Erode District
The impact of these policies can clearly be seen in Erode district.
- In 2020, Erode had only 21 DPIIT-recognised startups
- By 2025, this number increased to over 203 startups
- This shows a tenfold growth in just five years
The village startup community scheme aims to bring similar growth to rural areas by supporting local ideas and small businesses.
