On June 17, MBA students from the South Eastern University of Sri Lanka visited Kanavu Startup Village as part of an industrial visit program. The objective of the visit was to understand how a rural-based startup ecosystem operates like a modern innovation and business hub.
The visit provided students with real-time exposure to entrepreneurship, digital business models, and rural innovation practices.
Warm Welcome and Campus Introduction
The students were warmly welcomed by the Kanavu Startup Village team. They were guided across the campus and introduced to various departments and buildings.
Each section of the office was explained in detail, showing how different teams work together to manage operations effectively. This helped students understand the structure and functioning of a real startup environment.

CEO’s Inspiring Entrepreneurial Journey
A key highlight of the visit was the inspirational session by our CEO.
He shared his journey:
- His professional experience in the United States
- Starting Ticket Goose, one of India’s early online ticket booking platforms in Bangalore
- His return to Annamalai Kottai village with a strong vision for rural development
- His mission to create opportunities in villages and reduce migration to cities
He explained how many villages produce talented engineers, but due to lack of opportunities, they are forced to move to urban areas. His vision behind Kanavu Startup Village was to challenge the belief that IT companies can only grow in cities.
Instead, he demonstrated that innovation and technology-driven businesses can successfully operate from rural environments as well.
This powerful story deeply inspired all visiting students and faculty members.
Understanding Digital Marketing in the Modern Era
Our Digital Marketing Manager, Ms. Sandhiya, conducted an insightful session on modern marketing strategies.
She explained the two major types of digital marketing:
- Social Media Marketing
- Search Engine Marketing
She emphasized that social media platforms are powerful tools for creating awareness and reaching audiences quickly. However, brand credibility is often validated through search engines, official websites, and online reviews.
She further explained that even if customers discover a brand on social media, they usually search for the company online to check authenticity, reviews, and website information before making decisions. This makes a strong website and search engine presence essential for any business.
She also provided a brief overview of how Kanavu Startup Village actively implements digital marketing strategies to build trust, improve visibility, and strengthen its brand presence in the digital space.
Kanavu Ecosystem and Social Impact Initiatives
Our COO, Ms. Chitrabanu, introduced the broader ecosystem of Kanavu Startup Village, including:
She also explained how Kanavu Startup Village is developed carefully without disturbing the agricultural land of the village. The model ensures that innovation and rural livelihood coexist without environmental damage.
This approach reflects the organization’s commitment to sustainable development and community growth.
Interactive Q&A Session with Students
The visit concluded with an engaging Q&A session where students actively participated and asked insightful questions.
One of the key topics discussed was the impact of Artificial Intelligence on human resources and how organizations adapt to technological changes.
The discussion helped students understand that AI is not just replacing jobs but transforming the way work is done. Human creativity, decision-making, and innovation still remain essential in every industry.
A Memorable Closing Experience
After the session, refreshments were provided to the students. They shared positive feedback and appreciated the learning experience at Kanavu Startup Village.
One student, who works at a television station, recorded a video feedback titled:
“Gramathu Mannil Oru Digital Puratchi”
(A Digital Revolution in Rural Soil)
This reflected the true spirit of the visit and highlighted the transformation happening in rural innovation spaces.
Conclusion
The industrial visit by MBA students from South Eastern University of Sri Lanka was a meaningful and inspiring experience for both students and the Kanavu Startup Village team.
It reinforced the idea that innovation is not limited by geography. With the right vision and execution, rural ecosystems can become powerful centers of entrepreneurship, technology, and digital transformation.
