SOCIAL MEDIA SOP 2.0
Simple Standard Process for Social Media Calendar Planning
This SOP helps the team create a social media calendar based on the client’s objective, not just random posting dates.
The main rule is: Every post should have a purpose, audience, and measurable outcome.
- Understand the Client First
Before planning the calendar, collect these basic details:
- What does the client do?
- What product or service do they offer?
- Who is the target audience?
- What is the main monthly goal?
- Which platforms are important?
- Are there any offers, events, launches, or campaigns?
- What type of content does the client prefer?
- What should be avoided?
- Fix the Main Objective
Choose one main objective for the month.
Common objectives:
- Brand Awareness: To make more people know the brand.
- Engagement Growth: To increase likes, comments, shares, saves, polls, and story replies.
- Lead Generation: To get calls, WhatsApp enquiries, DMs, bookings, or form fills.
- Sales / Product Promotion: To promote products, offers, combos, or services.
- Trust Building: To build credibility through reviews, testimonials, process, team, and proof.
- Community Building: To create regular interaction and loyal followers.
- Event / Campaign Promotion: To promote workshops, launches, awareness days, expos, or special campaigns.
- Select Content Pillars
After fixing the objective, choose the right content pillars.
Common content pillars:
- Awareness – Brand intro, founder story, service intro
- Education – Tips, FAQs, myths, how-to posts
- Trust – Reviews, testimonials, process, team, proof
- Product / Service – Features, benefits, use cases
- Engagement – Polls, quizzes, questions, relatable posts
- Conversion – DM, call, WhatsApp, book now, visit store
- Seasonal / Trending – Festivals, awareness days, trends, local events
- Decide the Monthly Content Mix
A simple monthly structure can be:
- 8 to 12 posts per month
- 4 to 8 reels per month
- Stories based on weekly activities
- 1 campaign or theme if needed
- 1 monthly performance review
This can be increased or reduced based on the client’s need.
- Frame the Calendar
Use this simple calendar logic:
Week | Focus | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Week 1 | Awareness | Introduce brand, service, product, or theme |
Week 2 | Education | Give useful tips, FAQs, or explainers |
Week 3 | Trust | Show reviews, process, team, BTS, or proof |
Week 4 | Conversion | Push enquiry, booking, visit, sale, or campaign action |
- Calendar Template
Date | Platform | Topic | Format | Content Pillar | Objective | CTA |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | IG/FB | Brand intro | Static | Awareness | Reach | Follow us |
5 | IG | Tips post | Carousel | Education | Trust | Save this |
10 | IG/FB | Service benefit | Reel | Product/Service | Enquiry | DM us |
15 | Stories | Poll/question | Story | Engagement | Interaction | Vote now |
20 | Instagram/Facebook | Testimonial | Static/Reel | Trust | Credibility | Contact |
25 | Instagram/Facebook | Offer/CTA | Static | Conversion | Leads/Sales | WA us |
- Measure the Performance
At the end of the month, check:
- Reach
- Impressions
- Follower growth
- Profile visits
- Likes, comments, shares, saves
- Reel views
- Story views and replies
- Link clicks
- DM enquiries
- WhatsApp clicks
- Calls, leads, bookings, or sales
- Monthly Review Questions
Before planning the next month, ask:
- Which post performed well?
- Which reel got more views?
- Which topic got more engagement?
- Which content brought enquiries?
- Which CTA worked better?
- What should we repeat?
- What should we avoid?
- What new idea can we test?
- Final SOP Flow
Client Input → Objective → Content Pillars → Calendar Plan → Approval → Content Creation → Posting → Performance Review → Next Month Improvement
Simple Team Rule
Before adding any post to the calendar, ask:
- Why are we posting this?
- Which objective does it support?
- Who is the audience?
- What action should they take?
- How will we measure it?
If these five answers are clear, the post can be added to the calendar.
