On *1st August 2026, *Kanavu Startup Village welcomed *50 students from Navarasam Academy, along with **two staff members, for a *Science & Math Exploration session.
The session was facilitated by Ms. Purva Phater with the support of volunteers *Ilansurya, Rohini, Kousalya Devi, and Sathya. To encourage teamwork, the students were divided into *five teams and participated in hands-on activities that helped them understand science through observation and discussion.
The first activity focused on floating and sinking. Students were given a bowl of water and different objects such as stones, marbles, nails, small sticks, and clay. Before testing the objects, they predicted whether each one would float or sink and noted their answers. After placing the objects in the water, they compared the results with their predictions and learned why some objects float while others sink.







The second activity helped students understand *mass, volume, density, and water displacement. They filled a cylindrical beaker with water up to *60 ml and placed five different stones into it one by one. By observing how the water level changed with different stones, they learned how these concepts are connected in a simple and practical way.
The students participated actively throughout the session, sharing their observations and learning from each activity. COO Mrs. Chithrabanu Duraisamy also joined the students during the activities and spent time interacting with them.
In the evening, Ms. Purva Phater conducted an interactive session on “What is Science?” She explained the difference between fruits and vegetables and showed how science is present in many things we see and use every day. She also spoke about how our ancestors followed many scientific practices in their daily lives without calling them science. The session encouraged students and participants to look at everyday life with a scientific perspective and understand the importance of science in our society.
The day ended with many questions, discussions, and new learnings. Through simple experiments and interactive conversations, the students experienced that science is not just something found in textbooks—it is all around us, waiting to be explored.
